John F. Kennedy Museum

0DB9B93235294129AC744111CF29EC00

This ongoing exhibit invites the public to relive one of history’s most exciting and energetic presidential campaigns by accompanying Senator John F. Kennedy as he criss-crosses the country bringing his message of a “New Frontier” directly to the voters during the 1960 run for the presidency.
The Museum recreates the sights and sounds of the 1960 Democratic National Convention and the main streets of America traveled by candidates Kennedy and Nixon as they delivered hundreds of speeches in front of thousands of people of every age. Listen as Senator John F. Kennedy accepts his party’s nomination at the 1960 Democratic National Convention. Walk down Main Street USA taking in footage of Kennedy and Nixon stump speeches, campaign songs, and television coverage. Feel the energy of the Kennedy campaign as Frank Sinatra sings “High Hopes” and “All the Way!” Step back into a reproduction of the Chicago television studio where the first debate took place and see the actual audio control and television camera used by CBS affiliate WBBM-TV in 1960. Stay up late with Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, and Chet Huntley as they report election-night returns and reveal how close a race it really was.

“Since 2005, Ashmont Grill has brought a cup-full of culinary cheer to Dorchester’s Peabody Square with its wallet-friendly menu of modern tavern cuisine. Famous for Trainwreck French Fries and Grass Fed Burgers – guests can also be found enjoying Applewood Smoked Baby Back Ribs or Savory House Meatloaf, to lighter fare like Pan Seared Miso Salmon, Homemade Pita & Hummus or family style Farm Vegetables.”

“Smiling staff, creative cocktails and homey desserts baked daily, like our Sticky Toffee Pudding (featured on Food Network), make this a must-try destination in the city.”

“The Grill’s welcoming atmosphere of light, local art and conviviality has garnered legions of fans from the neighborhood and beyond. Chef-Owner Chris Douglass lives nearby and has obviously identified and successfully filled a need. We serve dinner nightly, brunch on Saturday & Sunday and lunch on Friday.”

“The Grill’s customers are as diverse as its menu; and there is no better place to absorb the culture of Dorchester than at its curved, cozy bar or on its intimate landscaped urban patio.”

The Banshee

An other local gem!

“OMG! Came here for dinner… DELISH! Friend and I ordered the special that they had advertised on their board… $10 for house salad, pork chops, mashed potato fritter balls, broccoli, and chocolate mouse cake! Seriously, so much food and for only $10 that is a steal! In addition to the yummy eats, there was a whole group of people playing irish style music live just a few booths away. I don’t know if The Banshee asks them to come in and play, or if it’s just a little pick up group… but I’ll tell you one thing – they were damn good and really gave The Banshee an ambiance that a lot of Irish pubs in Boston are lacking.”

Merengue

img_0654

“Dominican food is the result of a crossroads of many continents and many countries. Our native Taino Indians maintained a diet that reflected the resources found in their natural habitat, as well as their technological limitations. With the arrival of the Spaniards in 1492, many new species of animals, vegetables, fruits and grains were introduced, as well as many foods typical of the Mediterranean cuisine and others that had been passed down to the Spaniards by the Arabs during their 500-year domination of the Iberian Peninsula.”

“The introduction of African slaves in 1503 presented yet another gastronomical imprint on La Hispaniola. It is worth noting that the African influence is almost as strong as the Spanish influence in the Dominican culture – and the cuisine is no exception. Dominican fare is very similar to that found in other Latin American countries, especially Cuba and Puerto Rico, the only two other Spanish-speaking countries in the Caribbean.”
